About Cathy

I can act as a clearinghouse of information on lodging, restaurants, art supplies, places to paint, and art related exhibits or workshops or paint outs during the time that a painter plans to visit. If I will be involved in an organized paint out, or will be leading one, I'll be glad to have you post it and would welcome anyone from out of town. Workshops: either scheduled workshops at my studio or those that I can schedule on request for 2 - 5 students. There also may be workshops at 4 area art associations with 1/2 hour near me. I also am closely involved with a new project (www.rt15arts.com)that may be a good option for those interested in art, either in the doing (workshops) or watching (demonstrations) or just viewing (exhibits, shows) I'd suggest it as a link on your website. You'll have a large listing of lodging choices and hospitality(restaurants and wineries) as well.

Cathy's early career began on the eastern seaboard, selling ocean-related landscapes through galleries in beach resort areas of Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina and New Jersey. In the late 1990's, the artist began including galleries away from the ocean and painting landscapes that included a wider range of geographic regions from the mountainous west to the eastern US and Europe and Great Britain The artist also made the transition from the acrylic medium to oils and over three years of intense study worked to gain fluency with this new medium. New artwork sent to galleries soon included more and more oil paintings and less acrylics.

By 2002, the transition was more evident when an oil painting of Scotland was juried into the Oil Painters of America National show held in Chicago, Ill and an acrylic painting of Glacier National Park was juried into a show of the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic held at the Salgamundi Club in New York City.

Since that time, the artist has almost exclusively used oil paints, finding it the most expressive personal medium for her artwork. Following in the footsteps of past master painters, Cathy often starts her painting of a scene outdoors on location or in “plein air.” These paintings are, by necessity, smaller in size and can be used to create larger paintings completed indoors in her studio that she maintains in Summerdale, PA.

Cathy sells her art through galleries in several states as well as through her own studio and gallery located just across the river from Harrisburg, PA on Rts 11 &15, one-half mile below Interstate 81. Because the artist can often be painting on location, it is suggested that visitors call for hours for the current week, or make a casual appointment for a time that is convenient.
